My Thoughts: A story that goes back and forth in time, revealing dark secrets and hidden dangers, The Liar’s Wife kept me enthralled throughout.

Ella Sinclair has a strict routine in her life, one that doesn’t allow for much socializing. Her isolation will work against her after the hit and run accident that sidelines her. In fact, the news about her accident brings someone from the past back into her life. Someone who has leverage against her.

He sits by her bedside in the hospital and arranges for her things to be moved into a house he owns. House and wheelchair bound, Ella has no way to find help.

A frightening tale that kept me rapidly turning pages, the story gripped me and made me want Ella to find a way out of her situation.

What had happened to Ella in the past that would allow the man called Jacob to hold her hostage? Why is he able to control everything in her life, and prevent her escape? Finding those answers kept me glued to the pages. 4.5 stars.

I found the pace of this disturbing story slow but I did not foresee the twist.
The main character, Ella is involved in a bicycle accident and when she awakens in a hospital, her worst nightmare in waiting in the ward. Ten years earlier she ran from a dreadful incident and has up until the accident adapted to a solitary lifestyle. Her days are governed by routine. Work, Home. Eat. Sleep. She rejects all invitations from colleagues and remains aloof at work with little known about her.

The story is told in both the present and the past and focusses on abuse of women, violence and incest.

Ella had a strict routine work, home, sleep, repeat... One day, riding home on her bicycle, she is struck by a hit and run driver. She wakes up in hospital where a kind nurse tells her that her "husband" will be right back. The only problem with this scenario Ella has never been married...

The book drew me in from the beginning and demanded my undivided attention until the last page was read. There were a few unexpected twists and turns that kept me engaged and turning the pages. I figured out part of the story, but the big reveal was still a shocker.
I did enjoy this book but there was one part that was never explained to my satisfaction unless I missed it. What was Ethan's problem? Why was this character brought into the srory without explaining his hostility? If anyone can give me their take on this I would appreciate it. Otherwise it was a great read.
Filled with situations that were completely implausible to me, a main character that I couldn’t relate to for numerous reasons including victimization by threat of a video that may or may not exist, neighbors intrusive enough to walk in as they please but not so intrusive to notify police, a co-worker who exhibits stalkerish tendencies, and an ending that wraps everything up way too nicely.
The last 10 years of Ella's life, she's had little communication with anyone. She doesn't socialize with co-workers because she doesn't want to reveal details about herself & about what happened a decade ago.

Her life changed, the night Ella bicycled home from work & was hit by a van. She goes down & blacks out. When she comes to, she's in the hospital. They tell her she's had an accident & she's been in a medically induced coma for days, because she wasn't wearing a helmet & has swelling of the brain. Also, her leg & wrist are fractured. They had to operate & put a metal pin in her knee. The nurse tells her that her husband has been visiting her, reading her poetry & bringing her gifts. But, Ella isn't married.

She made the local news. The driver of the van didn't stop. It was a hit & run. The police were appealing for witnesses. They released her name & picture hoping the driver would come forward. The man, who calls himself Jacob & is claiming to be her husband, heard about her accident on the news.

After a lengthy hospital stay, she's discharged. But, she's wheelchair-bound & her cell phone is useless. Ella finds herself in a terrifying situation where she has little choice but to go along with everything he says until she figures out what to do.

Freeing herself is going to be complicated. He has taken her to a home in a gated development & has set up CCTV cameras that he can monitor thru an app on his phone. He won't allow her to leave the house, have any friends or even a phone. He's violent & abusive. Not only is he holding her captive, he hits her & rapes her repeatedly.

He goes swimming every night after work, (except for Friday's). She uses that time to work out a plan to escape. If he's in the pool, then he can't be checking the app on his phone. She wonders if she can disable the cameras without him noticing.

Then, Jacob kidnaps a baby. Now, there's someone else reliant on her. She doesn't like it. But, she can't ignore it either.

Neighbors come knocking wanting to welcome her to the neighborhood and a work colleague goes to great lengths to locate her & see how she's doing. None of them have any idea that she's in grave & imminent danger. There are reasons why she can't tell any of them that she's being held against her will.

Meanwhile, there's a concurrent thread about Ella's college years, her relationship with her twin brother (Harry), her first love (Zach) & memories of days spent with friends at Zach's family lake house; where everything turned bad.
